Spring Meadow Wedding at St Mary’s Church, Lower Slaughter

by | Jan 11, 2026

Lucy and Tom were married in early spring at the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Lower Slaughter, followed by a relaxed celebration at Lower Slaughter Country Inn in the heart of the Cotswolds. Their brief was wonderfully simple and poetic: spring meadow.

They wanted their wedding flowers to feel natural, seasonal and full of movement, as though they had been gathered from hedgerows and gardens just beginning to wake after winter. The aim was never anything stiff or overly styled, but something joyful, generous and quietly wild.

Using British, seasonal flowers wherever possible, I created a palette of soft spring colour – tulips, ranunculus, narcissi, blossom, delicate blossom-like blooms and fresh, textural foliage. Everything was designed to feel relaxed and abundant, with an emphasis on line, movement and that slightly untamed beauty you find in nature.

At St Mary’s Church, the flowers needed to enhance the space without overpowering it. The church is already incredibly atmospheric, so the brief was to work with it rather than compete. Meadow-style arrangements decorated the window ledges, while floral candelabras lined the aisle, bringing colour and life into the stone interior in a way that felt respectful and in keeping with the setting.

Lucy’s bouquet was full, airy and natural, gathered in the hand with a loose, just-picked feel. It echoed the meadow style perfectly – a joyful mix of colour, texture and seasonal charm. Buttonholes and bridesmaids’ flowers followed the same language, each one individual but clearly part of the same story.

One of the loveliest parts of this wedding was knowing how deeply the flowers resonated with them:

“Ashley took two words from us – ‘spring meadow’ – and turned them into reality and the most beautiful display of flowers we have ever seen. Not just the bouquets and the grand centrepieces, but all the way down to the posies and amazing buttonholes. The church was made even more beautiful by her touch and the displays were so respectful of the space.

When our flowers arrived we were absolutely speechless with their beauty, all created in a sustainable way. Ashley’s creativity is unbelievable and the flowers were the main thing our guests commented on.”

At Lower Slaughter Country Inn, the tables continued the spring narrative with centrepieces that felt fresh, light and organic. Nothing was overly formal; the flowers were there to bring warmth, colour and personality to the room, just as Lucy and Tom wanted.

This wedding was a perfect example of how seasonal, British flowers can create something deeply personal and atmospheric. A celebration rooted in place, time and nature – gentle, joyful, and full of spring’s quiet promise.
